India’s journey in the current World Test Championship cycle has come to an end, despite a promising start in the first two days of the SCG Test, where they competed well. However, things didn’t go as planned for them. India were bowled out for 161, failing to secure a big lead, and as a result, Australia successfully chased down the low target at the SCG by 6 wickets.
This result has completely turned things around for Australia, who will now face South Africa in the WTC final 2025. For the first time, India will not feature in a WTC final, having played in the previous two finals. Although they couldn’t secure the title in either of those attempts, they had consistently reached the final stages.
But this time, after their series loss to New Zealand earlier and now failing to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after holding it for almost a decade, it’s all done for them. Take a look at the WTC points table after the IND vs AUS 5th Test.
