Unsold IPL auction stars like Steve Smith, Kane Williamson & Warner offered big bucks to play PSL 2025

Unsold IPL auction stars like Steve Smith, Kane Williamson & Warner offered big bucks to play PSL 2025

Usually, the PSL ends before the IPL starts, but this time they'll collide. The IPL will run from March 14 to May 25, while the PSL starts on April 17 and ends on May 20.

Pakistan Super League (PSL) is well aware that they can’t compete with the Indian Premier League (IPL). That is why when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that the PSL 2025 would clash with the IPL 2025 season, the PSL franchise owners pleaded with the PCB to not push back the tournament from February-March to April-May. However, due to a jam-packed schedule with the responsibility of hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, the PCB was left with no choice.

PSL vs IPL in 2025

This meant that top players, who would have ideally played both IPL and PSL, would now have to make a choice. Choose the biggest and richest league in the world, which will ban you if you skip the season after getting sold in the auction or play PSL. The decision couldn’t have been easier for foreign players like Harry Brook or Tim David.

According to ProSports, PCB is looking to set the salary cap for marquee players somewhere between $350,000 to $400,000 (Rs 2.9 to 3.8 crore).

Unsold IPL stars approached by PSL

Meanwhile, PSL franchises are approaching foreign players who weren’t sold in the IPL 2025 auction. According to Samma TV, PSL franchises have contacted star players like Steve Smith, David Warner, Kane Williamson, Jonny Bairstow, Finn Allen, Keshav Maharaj, Shakib Al Hasan, Jimmy Neesham, and Tim Southee, all of whom had attracted no bidders last month in Jeddah.
