Shubman Gill has finally cracked the Test code. After much success in ODI and T20I cricket, the talented youngster has shown why the Indian management has stuck with him despite his poor return in red-ball cricket. Without India down to 10 men in the India vs England 3rd Test, Gill decided it was time to step up and show why he’s rated so highly.
After continuous failures at the No. 3 spot, the 24-year-old has roared back. After scoring a ton in Vizag earlier this month, the batter has scored an imperious 91 in Rajkot. Having scored a duck in the first inning of the third Test, the pressure was back on Shubman Gill to prove that his returns in Vizag weren’t a mistake.
Fans have already started calling his ton in the second Test, a ‘fluke’. But, as he did so in Vizag, the batter paid no heed to critics and scored a chanceless 91 to take the India cricket team one step closer to victory. However, he missed out on successive centuries after a mix-up between him and Kuldeep Yadav, with him just nine runs away from his fourth Test century.
After Kuldeep struck a powerful blow towards mid-off, the duo ran for a single. However, Ben Stokes’ brilliance in the field and indecision from the two batters saw Shubman Gill fail to return to the crease in time. The batter even tried to dive to make his way back, but failed to do so.
