Unhappy with England players’ pullouts, IPL franchises mull complaining to BCCI

Plethora of English players pull out of IPL 2024, IPL teams mull complaining to BCCI as ECB claims workload management ahead of T20 World Cup

IPL team franchises have been left disgruntled with the fact that majority of the English players have started to ditch IPL 2024. With mere days remaining the English stars have started to pull out of the tournament, much to the dismay of the teams. The Three Lions players are citing personal reasons for workload management heading into the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

Be it Ben Stokes, Jason Roy or Harry Brook all of the English stars have shied away from IPL 2024. Ben Stokes made it clear ahead of the IPL Auction that he wants to rest and will prioritise the T20 World Cup. As for Brook, he missed the IND vs ENG 5 match Test series citing personal reasons.

Ahead of start of the IPL, with English players pulling out, teams are pondering over the idea of complaining to the BCCI. Last week as India took on England for the 5th Test in Dharamshala, the BCCI officials spoke with the ECB officials regarding the same. The topic of discussion? – Of course, English players pulling out of the league.

Chennai Super Kings received the information prior to the auction that Stokes won’t play. As a result, they made the necessary changes in the Auction. But for other teams it is hugely difficult.

Plethora of English Stars Ditch IPL 2024

Off late, Gus Atkinson pulled out of IPL for KKR. The ECB was clear in stating that the pacer will be rested for workload management. KKR replaced the Englishman with Dusmantha Chameera. On the other hand, Jason Roy the other day, too pulled out citing personal reasons. The Knights eventually replaced him with fellow English hard hitter Phil Salt.

Not just for KKR, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) too saw ace pacer Mark Wood leaving IPL 2024. The reason? No guess – Workload management. Shamar Joseph was brought in as a replacement for Wood.

The IPL teams are frustrated with the English star pulling out of the mega tournament at the last moment. The ECB is keen on workload management ahead of the T20 World Cup. Conversely, it also a concern given if the English players don’t remain in match condition ahead of the mega tournament, this mega move can go back to bite them in the back.
