Understrength Australia run over Namibia to post 7-wicket win in T20 World Cup warm-up match

AUS vs NAM: In a clinical effort by Australia, against Namibia, Mitchell Marsh's men came out on tops as expected, and won by seven wickets.

Team Australia didn’t have some of their top players for their T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up fixture against Namibia on Wednesday, but yet they managed to beat the minnows by seven wickets in Port of Spain. With the likes of Travis Head, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc yet to reach America, after the IPL final, Australia instead fielded chief-selector George Bailey and fielding coach Andre Borovec in the playing XI.

Zampa, Hazlewood Wreak Havoc in AUS vs NAM

As expected, Aussies were on top of their game throughout. Their bowlers managed to curtail the opposition score to only 119/9 in 20 overs, and then David Warner’s fiery innings helped them reach the target in only 10 overs. But it all started with Hazlewood picking up early wickets.

He got the wicket of opener Michael van Lingen on the second delivery of the match, and eventually returned with figures of 2/5. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa was equally good with his 3/25. As far as Namibia’s batting is concerned, Zane Green managed to take the team over the 100-run mark with his 38 from 30 deliveries. Malan Kruger got 18 from 11 as well.

David Warner Bounces Back to Form

Chasing an easy target of 120, opener David Warner had only one job — to get some runs under his belt and bounce back to form. After all he had a torrid IPL 2024, where he scored 168 runs in eight matches for DC. But here against Namibia, he smashed an unbeaten 54 from 21 deliveries.

Tim David also got his eye in, and got 23 from 16, while Matthew Wade managed to stay till the end with 12 from 5. Now Australia play their next warm-up match against West Indies on May 31.
