Uncertainty over Jasprit Bumrah’s injury remains as Indian captain returns to dressing room after scans

Jasprit Bumrah has delivered the most overs (151.2) for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Amid the India cricket team‘s ongoing collapse at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), some good news has come. Jasprit Bumrah, who is suffering an injury no one’s aware of just yet, has returned to the ground from the hospital. For the unaware, the Indian captain had left the field, minutes after the second session on the first day started.

Is injury still an issue for Jasprit Bumrah?

Visuals of Bumrah going for scans had emerged, and there was uncertainty over whether he’d return back to the SCG. A couple of hours later, Bumrah’s back. We had no clarity until Prasidh Krishna revealed in the press conference that Bumrah has back spasms. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team will give an update on the pacer soon.

Will Jasprit Bumrah bowl again in the India vs Australia 5th Test?

The only good thing is that Bumrah will have around 24 hours to rest. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are unbeaten at the end of the second day’s play. One hopes that the duo bats for at least half of the first session on the third day as well so that Bumrah has as much time as possible to recover.

No one knows how his body will react after a day’s rest. The back spasms may not be that serious, and if need be, Bumrah might just rock up to not just bowl but also bat if and when his services are required. He’s also the captain in the India vs Australia 5th Test. We have seen the pacer take on extra responsibility when leading the side, and he might put his fitness at risk to come out to bat and even bowl.

Most overs bowled for India in BGT 2024-25

  • Jasprit Bumrah (151.2 overs)
  • Mohammed Siraj (145.1 overs)
  • Akash Deep (77.5 overs)
  • Ravindra Jadeja (63 overs)
  • Harshit Rana (45 overs)
