Umran Malik: 2023 World Cup – Umran Malik is keeping his World Cup dream still alive after being selected in the ODI squad for the three-match series against West Indies. Malik piped Arshdeep Singh and the express pace bowler is set to get enough chances to prove his worth before the 50 Over World Cup 2023. Malik last turned out to play ODI against New Zealand in January 2023.
Prior to that, the Jammu Kashmir fast bowler had a decent outing against Bangladesh in the three-match ODI series. With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami not part of the ODI series against West Indies, it is good chance for Malik to impress the selectors ahead of the ODI World Cup.

Umran Malik: Umran Malik’s chance to shine during the West Indies ODI series, Arshdeep Singh falls behind the pecking order
The BCCI selectors have kept their faith in Malik and have selected him in the ODI series despite his lackluster performance in the IPL 2023 season for SRH. The 23-year-old only played eight matches and picked up five wickets. However, with few senior pacers being injured and rested for the ODI series, selectors felt Malik’s extra pace would be handy in fast and bouncy pitch in West Indies.
Malik has played eight ODIs so far, picking 13 wickets at an economy rate of 6.45 and at an average of 27.30. While Malik’s good start to his ODI career landed him a spot in the ODI series for the Windies tour, Arshdeep has fallen behind the pecking order. The left-arm pacer has played three ODIs so far and has not picked up a wicket yet. Worst, Arshdeep has also been a tad expensive in these games going over seven runs per over.
India’s ODI squad for West Indies series: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar.
