The Southwick and Shoreham Cricket Club in the UK has banned players from hitting sixes in the venue, The step was taken after the residents near the stadium complained of damage to property and safety concerns owing to the big hits coming from the stadium. Despite nets being erected at the venue, damage to cars and injuries to bystanders have been frequent around the venue.
No more sixes!
To combat the menace, the club has adopted a weird rule. The first six that will be hit will be counted as no runs. Any subsequent six will be given out by the umpire.
Club treasurer Mark Broxup explained the decision, emphasizing the need to avoid costly insurance claims and legal issues. “In the olden days, cricket was more sedate. With the advent of 20/20 and limited-overs cricket, the sport has become far more explosive,” he said.
What prompted the six ban?
A 80-year-old who resides near the stadium opined that the stadium couldn’t fit the testosterone-fueled men.
“It’s a very small ground and can’t accommodate the testosterone-fueled young men who just want to hit the ball as far as they can,” she said.
