Watch: Ugly Scenes in Colombo! Fans get in fight after IND vs SL Asia Cup clash

The fight broke after India won a low-scoring thriller by 41 runs as home side Sri Lanka failed to chase 214.

After India eked out a 41-run win over home side Sri Lanka in the IND vs SL Super 4’s match in the Asia Cup 2023 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, scenes turned ugly. After the match, Indian and Sri Lankan fans got involved in a brutal brawl in what appeared to be the upper stands of the stadium.

In the video being circulated online, a fan wearing the Sri Lanka jersey seems to be being held back by several people. However, the attempts to stop the fan fail, as he can be seen aggressively running towards an Indian fan and starting to throw his fists towards him.

IND vs SL: Match Breakdown

The first inning saw Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill race off to a great start, adding 80 runs for the opening stand. However, things took a turn from there as the Sri Lanka spinner, led by Dunith Wellalage, scalped all 10 Indian wickets for just 133 runs. Wellalage and Charith Asalanka both took career bests of 5-40 and 4-18, respectively, as only one Indian batter crossed the fifty-run mark.

Defending just 214, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took 3 wickets in the powerplay to put India forward. However, Sadeera Samarawickrama (17) and Charith Asalanka (22) put on a crucial partnership to keep Sri Lanka on the hunt. Kuldeep Yadav (4/43) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/33) helped the Men in Blue reduce the home side to 99/6. Dhananjaya de Silva (41) and Dunith Wellalage (42*) put up a great fight but failed to take their side across the line as Lankans were all-out for 172.
