With no Shakib Al Hasan to save the day, Bangladesh struggled batting first. Bangladesh were down to 35/3 inside powerplay with no end in sight to their struggles. But it was Afif Hossain, who brought some sense back to Bangladesh batting with a brilliant 77-run knock.

Down 77/5, Afif Hossain took charge. With 7 fours and 3 sixes, he added 81-run stand with Nurul Hasan for the 6th wicket. That partnership turned out to be the game-changing moment of the match as without that Bangladesh would have ended up with a paltry score. Nurul scored a valuable 25-ball 35 to help Bangladesh post 158/5.
However, minnows UAE were not letting it go easily. Bangladesh more embarrassment in store. Waseem Muhammad and Chirag Suri gave the hosts a good start adding 27 runs for the opening wicket. While Muhammad was dismissed, Suri continued to hammer with Aryan Lakra by his side.
However, once Lakra was dismissed, UAE lost the plot. The inexperienced batting line-up collapsed. From 66/2, UAE were suddenly 122/8. But it was Aayan Khan who kept the pressure on Bangladeshi bowlers with 17-ball 25. But in the end, experience won. Mehidy Hasan and Shoriful Islam bagged three wickets each as UAE fell short by 7 runs.
