Twice rejected in IPL Auctions, this groundsman’s son finally makes the cut

After being rejected twice in the IPL Auctions, Saurav Chauhan will play for the RCB in the upcoming IPL 2024.

Having played a substantial number of domestic matches in all the formats, Gujarat’s hard-hitting, left-hand batsman Saurav Chauhan has finally made it to the IPL. The 23-year-old was bagged by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, for his base price of INR 20 lakh, during the IPL 2024 Auction on Tuesday.

But the son of Dilip Chauhan, a groundsman at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Saurav has never had it easy. As per a report in the Times of India, Saurav has had to face rejection a few times. His father went on to reveal that Saurav was not picked by any team in the last two auctions, but he still kept working hard.

“In the past two IPL auctions, Saurabh had remained unsold,” his father told the Times of India. “Every time he came to know that he was not selected in the auction, he would just switch off the television and go to the ground and start practicing. He will not get demoralised or dejected but at every rejection he would try to improve himself as a cricketer,” Chauhan added.

Now the youngster will finally be able to learn from the best in the world, and will be teammates with former India skipper Virat Kohli. “I attended two selection camps this year. One was of Delhi Capitals and the other by RCB. I am very happy that I got selected for RCB. I would like to dedicate my success to my coach Tarak Trivedi, my parents, and to the Gujarat Cricket Association that helped me a lot,” said Saurav.
