Trent Boult ready for Mumbai Indians return, sizzles for MI Cape Town on SA20 debut

Trent Boult was the Mumbai Indians' most expensive pick (Rs 12.50 crore) at the IPL 2025 auction.

Trent Boult is one of the best powerplay bowlers in T20 history. The left-arm pacer, who swings the ball both ways, is a menace with the brand-new white ball in his hand. Playing in his first-ever T20 match in South Africa and making his SA20 debut for MI Cape Town, Boult breathed fire on the Sunrisers Eastern Cape top order and helped gain Cape Town a convincing 97-run victory over the reigning 2-time champions.

After an expensive 12-run first over, Boult returned to bowl a wicket maiden. He rattled the stumps of Zak Crawley and then sent Tom Abell back on his first ball. From there on, the Eastern Cape never recovered. Delano Potgieter bagged a 5-wicket haul, but it was off the back of a superb start that Boult gave to MI Cape Town.

Boult to make MI comeback in IPL 2025

Before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, this bodes well for the main MI franchise, the Mumbai Indians. Having played two seasons for MI before (2020 and 2021), Boult will return to the Wankhede Stadium once again. The Kiwi pacer has a great record in the blue-golden jersey and will be a handful to face when it teams up with Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah.

Despite playing just two seasons for MI, Boult somehow is on the verge of becoming their 10th-highest wicket-taker of all time. He’ll definitely cross the mark in IPL 2025. He’s retired from international cricket and plies his trade on the T20 franchise circuit now; this gives him T20 expertise very few players have. That, combined with this performance on his SA20 debut for their other franchise, MI will be satisfied with spending Rs 12.50 crore on Boult.
