Trent Boult & Jasprit Bumrah to torment batters once again as MI buy Kiwi pacer at IPL 2025 auction

Trent Boult & Jasprit Bumrah to torment batters once again as MI buy Kiwi pacer at IPL 2025 auction

Boult is the Mumbai Indians' 11th highest wicket-taker despite playing just two seasons for them.

Trent Boult has rejoined the Mumbai Indians (MI). The left-arm pacer who’s the best powerplay bowler in the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) history was bought by his old franchise. Boult has represented MI from 2020-21. He was one of the reasons why they won their 5th and last IPL title. His partnership with Jasprit Bumrah was a sight to behold, and that’s exactly why they paid Rs 12.50 crore for him at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Trent Boult back at MI

Boult, who’s got the most wickets in the powerplay, took 38 wickets for the Mumbai Indians during his 2-year stint. Bumrah in the same period got 48 wickets. But it was his first season that was exceptional. He took 25 wickets in 2020, but the next season wasn’t that great, and he was let go by MI.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) bagged him at the IPL 2022 mega auction, and he found incredible success with them as well. At RR, he got 45 wickets in 42 matches. However, now his number and impact might increase. Although he had Nandre Burger last season at RR, one can’t have anyone better than Bumrah as your bowling partner. That would help release some pressure off him.

Coming to the auction. MI and his old franchise, RR, showed interest from the start. The bid started at Rs 2 crore and both remained until the end. At Rs 12.50 crore, RR thought it was too rich for them and let MI have him. But, given Mumbai had no other pacers, they were happy to get him.
