Treat for fans! India vs Pakistan likely to take place thrice in ICC Champions Trophy

India vs Pakistan: Mega matchup on cards as Men in Blue likely to face Men in Green three times in ICC Champions Trophy

It will be a huge treat for the cricketing fans as there is a high possibility of India vs Pakistan clash happening thrice in the ICC Champions Trophy. Reports claim, much like in the recent past, the two arch rivals are likely to be paired in the same group. This would see them facing together in the group stage and possibly in the Super Fours. Should both team qualify the duo will meet in the finals, making it a third outing between the two in a single tournament.

A total of 8 teams will take part in the ICC Champions Trophy. Both India and Pakistan have been slotted in Group A. The selection of the 8 teams have been done in order of their position in the group stage of the ODI World Cup 2023. Pakistan automatically got their selection courtesy of being hosts.

India to face Pakistan potentially thrice

Apart from India and Pakistan, Group A consists of Bangladesh and New Zealand. On the other hand, Afghanistan, Australia, England and South Africa comprises of Group B. The top 2 teams from each group will play in the Super 4s. From the Super 4s, the top 2 teams will qualify for the finals.

As both India and Pakistan are placed in the same group, they will face each other once in the group stage. Should both teams qualify for the Super 4s, they would face each other again. And finally, if both manage to finish in top in the Super 4s, they would lock against each other in the coveted final of the Champions Trophy.

Currently, as things stand, India Cricket Team won’t travel to Pakistan. Instead the BCCI wants a hybrid model, where India will play at a neutral venue as was the case in the Asia Cup 2023. But PCB has been reluctant and has claimed that they want to host the entirety of the tournament in their country.
