Abhishek Sharma came up with a unique celebration after smashing his maiden IPL century in the game against PBKS. The SRH opener finally broke free from the shackles of poor form and recorded the highest score for an Indian in the IPL. Following SRH’s victory, his fellow opener Travis Head opened up on Sharma’s “note” celebration.
What is reason behind Abhishek’s “parchi” celebration?
Following his century, Abhishek pulled out a note from his pocket and held it high above his head. It read, “This one is for the Orange Army.” Talking about that note, Head revealed that Sharma had been carrying the note in his pocket for six games, adding that he was glad it came out today.
“The note has been in the pocket of Abhishek Sharma for 6 games, glad it came out tonight,” Head said.
The opener smashed his way to 141 from just 55 deliveries, including 14 fours and 10 sixes, just murdering PBKS bowlers on the day.
Prior to this game, Abhishek had struggled to get going with the bat. In 5 games, he could only manage scores of 24, 6, 1, 2 and 18. However, he rediscovered his form against PBKS, helping SRH end their losing streak in an emphatic fashion.
Now, Abhishek has 176 runs in 6 matches for his side, and his numbers have drastically improved. He averages 33.20 and with a strike-rate of 200.
Abhishek dedicated his knock to his parents, his mentor Yuvraj Singh, Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and the Orange Army.
“This one is very special and I was thinking that I wanted to break the losing streak, it was very tough as a player and as a youngster, but the mood in the team was very good,” Sharma said after his knock while speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony.
