The India vs Australia Test series ends on a disappointing note with the hosts securing the Border Gavaskar Trophy with a 6-wicket victory in the final Sydney Test. With that, Pat Cummins & Co wrapped the Border Gavaskar Trophy 3-1, regaining the title after 12 years. Thanks to the 3-1 result, Australia also confirmed a second consecutive berth at the WTC Final 2025, knocking India’s hopes of a hat-trick of a final.

IND vs AUS 4th Test
India’s hopes of reaching the World Test Championship final for the third consecutive time were dealt a significant setback after they were defeated by Australia by 184 runs in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday. Set a daunting target of 340 runs, India were bowled out for 155 in the final session on the fifth and last day of the fourth Test.
India vs Australia 5th Test
In a do-or-die scenario to keep WTC Final hopes alive, Team India made a bold move by dropping out-of-form captain Rohit Sharma from the team. However, things did not improve with the bat on a green top. India were bowled out for 185 in the first innings. While India fought back with the ball, taking a slender 4-run lead after dismissing Australia for 181, Indian batting faltered once again. India could only set a 162-run target after folding for 157 in the 2nd innings in Sydney. Australia comfortably reached the target with Travis Head and Beau Webster remaining unbeaten in the absence of stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah who was out of 2nd innings with a back injury.
