Top Pakistan stars invited for ‘connection camp’ in yet another attempt to hit reset button before CT 2025

A connection camp has been organised by the PCB in Lahore on September 23 as Pakistan aim to hit the reset button once again before CT 2025

Top Pakistan cricket team players including Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi have been invited for the ‘connection camp’ in Lahore on September 23. The players and the coaches – Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie – are expected to discuss the future of the country’s cricket as they aim to hit the reset button once again, just like how they’ve done so multiple times over the last two years.

The debacle at the T20 World Cup followed by a historic series loss to Bangladesh has prompted the team management to come up with another camp, this time in the guise of a ‘connection camp’. The one-day camp has been organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board in Lahore on September 23.

Another day, another camp for Pakistan

As per Cricket Pakistan, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub and Shan Masood are among the cricketers who have been invited for the camp. Discussions about the future of Pakistan cricket and the preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy (CT 2025) are expected to be the agenda of the camp. Additionally, white-ball coach Gary Kirsten has prepared a list of potential players he would like to try out in Pakistan’s upcoming white-ball season where they will play 18 ODIs and 9 T20Is before CT 2025.

Pakistan’s performance and captaincy

This year, Pakistan’s performance has been extremely poor. They’ve just won one series across all formats; that too came against Ireland. They played 2 T20I series against New Zealand (losing 4-1 once and drawing to their ‘F’ side 2-2), and against England, they suffered a 2-0 defeat in T20Is (two matches were washed off).

The worst was the loss to the USA at the T20 World Cup and their subsequent elimination from the group stage. While coaches Gary Kirsten and Gillespie have urged the PCB to not make any immediate changes to the leadership, it remains to be seen what will be the future of Babar Azam and Shan Masood.
