Top five most expensive buys in WPL 2024 auction

A total of 165 players went under the hammer at the WPL mini-auction on December 9 in Mumbai.

The countdown for the Women’s Premier League 2024 is on with the completion of WPL 2024 auction. Some players had WPL franchises bidding for them like there’s no tomorrow and as a result, some big stars and future prospects were picked for big bucks.

Sutherland, aged 22, was acquired by the Gujarat Giants side for Rs 70 lakh last year. This time, her price almost tripled.

Kashvee Gautam (INR 2 crore, Gujarat Giants)-

Kashvee Gautam was perhaps the most unexpected expensive picks of the WPL 2024 auction. Kashvee saw a long 3-way battle between Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz before GG put in a bid of Rs 2 crores to acquire the 22-year-old seamer who can be a handy asset with the bat too.

Vrinda Dinesh (INR 1.3 crore, UP Warriorz)

Vrinda Dinesh had a base price of only 10 lakhs. However, the batter went for Rs 1.3 crore. The 22-year-old top-order batter currently plays for the India-A. She grabbed the limelight with her 29-ball 36 in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup final and sent UP Warriorz on high alert as the franchise pushed the hardest for her signature.

Shabnim Ismail (INR 1.2 crore, Mumbai Indians)- Shabnim Ismail is the star South-African fast bowler who was also in the radar of the franchises. The Gujarat Titans and the Mumbai Indians went head-to-head for her and she ended up in the hands of the defending champions, Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians fought hard for Shabnim and signed her for Rs 1.2 crore.

Phoebe Litchfield (INR 1 crore, Gujarat Giants) – Phoebe Litchfield was the first cricketer to go under the hammer at the WPL 2024 auction. The Aussie player, holds the record for the joint-fastest fifty in WT20Is off 18 balls along with Sophie Devine, was quickly bought for Rs 1 crore by Gujarat Giants who must have been pleased at getting the Phoebe.
