Chennai Super Kings, who are gearing up for IPL 2025, recently purchased several players at the mega auction. All the players will look to perform well in the yellow jersey. Last time, under their new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team failed to make it to the playoffs after losing to RCB in the final game of the league stage. However, this time they will look to do things differently and perfect their strategy. As mentioned, the team went for some big players and will aim to make a big impact, having invested a lot of money in them. However, there are some impressive players whom CSK bought, but chances are they will warm the bench more than get a game for CSK in IPL 2025. Take a look at all the names.
Rachin Ravindra
CSK is well aware of how impressive Rachin is as a top-order batter, which is why they spent INR 4 crore to get him. He was already part of the 2023 IPL and played for CSK, making some impressive runs but mostly failing to capitalize on those opportunities. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway are better suited for the top order, as we’ve seen in the past. So, placing Rachin in the top order may not align with the plans of the five-time champions. Moreover, with enough players down the order who can play fast, this creates an issue for him to make it into the playing XI.
Vijay Shankar
One of the names that has always been promising with both bat and ball, but is currently not delivering performances in the IPL, is Vijay Shankar. Last season, playing for Gujarat Titans, Shankar made just 83 runs in 7 games, averaging 16.60. With the ball, he also didn’t show much improvement. While Shankar is known for his well-balanced role as an all-rounder, he is not delivering as much as he should. Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, he was released and now picked by CSK for INR 1.20 crore. However, chances are he will remain on the bench for most of IPL 2025.
Nathan Ellis
CSK bought right-arm fast-medium bowler Nathan Ellis for INR 2 crore, but this bowler may not feature in games and could warm the bench. The reason for this is the full-packed bowling lineup of CSK, which covers all bases, from the spin department to a strong pace attack, with young Indian fast bowlers and also superstars like Sri Lankan speedster Matheesha Pathirana. Since the team can only field a maximum of 4 foreign players in the playing XI, they need to decide which foreign players to include. This could certainly be one of the reasons why Ellis may warm the bench more than he plays in IPL 2025.
