While all the teams have spent big bucks in forming their team, there remains quite a few players who were the surprise picks of the entire event, These players might have been priced for huge amounts or small – but here we take a look at 5 such surprise picks.
Glenn Maxwell – ₹4.2 Crore (Punjab Kings)
The top Australian all-rounder failed to attract a huge sum in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Royal Challengers Bengaluru didn’t retain the player and avoided rebuying the player. But it was Punjab Kings who got their prized player fro a sum of 4.2 crores when RCB wasted not a single moment in claiming they won’t use the RTM.
Given that Maxwell is aging, but getting the ace power hitter for such a cut-price makes it a wonderful deal for PBKS who have completely revamped their side in the auction.
Mohit Sharma – ₹2.2 Crore (Delhi Capitals)
It was quite a surprise when veteran pacer Mohit Sharma was picked by Delhi Capitals for a price of 2.2 crores. Over the last 3 seasons, Mohit Sharma has performer well for the Gujarat Titans. At 36-years of age, Mohit has heaps of experience having made his IPL debut more than a decade ago in 2013. He has 132 wickets in the league from 112 matches.
Mohit Sharma, known for his consistency as a pacer with 132 wickets in 112 matches, was acquired by Delhi Capitals for only ₹2.2 crore. This price raised eyebrows considering his track record and experience in the league
Vaibhav Suryavanshi – ₹1-1 Crore (Rajasthan Royals)
At just 13-years of age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became a crorepati. The teenager made the headlines before IPL 2025 Auction after tonking a 58 ball century for India U19 against Australia. And now he became the youngest player to be sold in the history of the IPL. Suryavanshi was sold to Rajasthan Royals for a price of 1.1 crore and the young prodigy will now receive training and guidance from Rahul Dravid.
Sam Curran – ₹2.4 Crore (Chennai Super Kings)
It has been a homecoming for English all-rounder Sam Curran. The Englishman saw his salary drop a massive 87% when CSK roped him for 2.4 crores. He has been a part of the PBKS team from 2019 and in 2023 auction was the highest priced player for a sum of 18.50 crores.
2 years later, from a base price of 2 crores, he joins the Yellow Army at a cut price in what many consider to be a surprised move.
Washington Sundar – ₹3.2 Crore (Gujarat Titans)
Off-spinner and all-rounder Washington Sundar was picked by Gujrat Titans for a price of 3.2 crores. Having played a huge role in Sunrisers Hyderabad over the years, SRH didn’t bother to pick their player. Instead he nw has a new home where he will aim to replicate his fiery form.
