The IPL 2025 Mega Auction concluded in Jeddah on 25th November. While all the teams went on to rebuild their respective squads, there were quite a few players who were bought for big bucks by the teams. Here we take a look at 5 players who bought for overpriced amounts in the IPL 2025 Auction.
Venkatesh Iyer
Kolkata Knight Riders spilled a huge amount of cash for Venkatesh Iyer. The defending champions went on to re-buy their ace southpaw for a whopping price of 23.75 crore. Fans have expressed their deep surprise after the Kolkata outfits went on to buy Iyer for such a huge amount.
Last season, his salary was 8 crores and now has seen a significant increase. While it was natural for KKR to rebuy a top-order batter from their title-winning squad, the amount spent on Venky Iyer certainly looks too overpriced.
Yuzvendra Chahal
Veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal went on to earn a huge paycheck at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Released from the Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings spilled a huge amount of cash to rope in the leggie. PBKS got their player for a whopping price of 18 crores.
While Chahal continues to be the all-time leading wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League, it is quite natural to observe that 18 crores for Chahal is certainly an overpriced deal.
Jofra Archer
It has been a homecoming for Jofra Archer in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. The English speedster initially, wasn’t a part of the auction, but then days before he acquired his NOC (No Objection Certificate) and registered his name. Come to the auction, Rajasthan Royals picked him for a price of 12.5 crores.
Injuries have plagued Archer over the years, and he could never perform for Mumbai Indians. But now, RR spending such a huge amount on the ace speedster certainly looks like an overspend.
Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma was rebought by Punjab Kings in the mega auction. But the keeper better saw himself getting sold for a huge amount. Given the dip in his performance since last season, it was quite a surprise when PBKS acquired him for a staggering price of 11 crores. Fans wondered why PBKS opted to buy Jitesh for 11 crores when ace batter KL Rahul was available for a cut price of 14 crores.
Noor Ahmad
Noor Ahmad made his debut for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 and was an instant hit as he claimed 16 wickets in 13 games. Though his form dipped lasts season he scalped 10 wickets from 10 games. And come the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, Chennai Super Kings wrapped him up for a huge price of 10 crores.
Interestingly, for GT he was at a base salary of 30 lakhs. 10 crore seems hugely overpriced given Noor Ahmed is not a regular for his National side. Interestingly, in IPL 2021, he was nets bowler for CSK.
