At the Wanderers in Johannesburg in 1921, Australian batsman Jack Gregory hit the then-record fastest test century in just 67 balls against South Africa. A couple hitters nearly broke this record, but Gregory’s astounding total remained unsurpassed. For a very long time, Gregory’s innings was regarded as one of the best in cricket history, and it took Viv Richards nearly 65 years to surpass it in 1986.

In his farewell test match, former Kiwi captain Brendon McCullum broke the record for the fastest test century in just 54 balls.
McCullum broke the record with a spectacular hit of 145 runs in just 79 balls, including six sixes and 21 fours.
Viv Richards
After nearly 65 years in test cricket, Viv Richards beat Jack Gregory with a 56-ball century against England at St. John’s in Antigua in 1986. For thirty years, Viv Richards held the record, and only twice did someone come close to surpassing him.
Misbah-ul-Haq
Misbah-ul-Haq, a former captain of Pakistan, is renowned for his perseverance and fortitude in red-ball cricket. However, in November 2014, he made the decision to change his game, and he nearly broke the record for the fastest test century at the time. In the second innings, Misbah reached the same milestone with a century off 56 balls.
Adam Gilchrist
In the 2006 Ashes series, Australian wicket-keeper batter Adam Gilchrist absolutely destroyed the English bowlers. He opened the innings with a four-ball duck and proceeded to play one of the best knocks in the red-ball format.
Gilchrist reached his century at the WACA in just 57 balls. In 59 deliveries, he amassed an undefeated 102 runs, including 12 fours and 4 sixes.
