The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are yet to announce a captain who will lead the side in IPL 2025. RCB didn’t retain their previous captain Faf du Plessis on IPL 2025 Retention Day and now are looking for a suitable candidate to lead the side. Here we look at 3 candidates who can effectively lead the side in their pursuit of their maiden IPL title.
Virat Kohli
As things stand, Virat Kohli remains the best-suited candidate to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He was RCB’s first retention for a price of 21 crores. Kohli had previously led the side from 2013 to 2021 when he eventually stepped down from the captaincy role.
He almost won the title backing 2016 but fell short in the finals. A player of his caliber is the best fit to once again lead the team as RCB desperately plans on lifting the title. And with Faf no longer in the team, Kohli reclaiming the captaincy role would be the most ideal fit for the team.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
The second candidate who can lead RCB is veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The ace pacer is known for his calm and composed demeanor on the field. And this all makes the case for a perfect captain in the team. Previously, Bhuvi has captained Sunrisers Hyderabad, so it won’t be a brand new role for him.
Moreover, Bhuvi who is no longer a part of the India Cricket Team setup, has been backed by RCB. In fact, the team spilled 10.75 crores on the pacer to take into their roster during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
Phil Salt
If RCB plans on appointing another foreign player as the captain, then Phil Salt would be an ideal candidate. The explosive keeper batter though doesn’t have enough experience in leading a star-studded team, but can be a good offset option.
The Englishman with his unique and dynamic gameplay style was bought by RCB for a price of 11.5 crores, meaning he has the utmost backing from the franchise.
