Pakistan is assembling a pace-heavy team for the T20 World Cup 2024, including six fast bowlers. With the return of two highly valued players, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Amir, Pakistan’s bowling attack appears formidable.
The ‘Men in Green’ are preparing for the tournament with a four-match T20I series against the defending champions. Apart from Haris, all the pacers are in the team to warm up for the major event.
Pacer | T20I wickets |
Shaheen Afridi | 91 |
Haris Rauf | 92 |
Mohammad Amir | 64 |
Shaheen Afridi
Pakistan’s pace bowler Shaheen Afridi impressed against New Zealand at home in April and claimed 14 wickets for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 2024 season. Shaheen has taken 18 wickets in two T20 World Cup editions, including a match-winning spell of 3-31 against India in 2021. He has 91 wickets in T20I format.
Haris Rauf
In the current team, Haris Rauf leads the pace attack as the leading wicket-taker. He has taken 92 wickets in 67 T20I matches with an economy rate of 8.21. After recovering from injury, he will make his comeback into the team.
Mohammad Amir
Once considered the heir apparent to the legacy of swing kings Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, Mohammad Amir’s start-stop career has seen him play only 52 T20Is in a 15-year journey. Despite this, his whippy pace and nippy swing remain daunting for batters in T20 leagues worldwide, as witnessed during New Zealand’s tour of Pakistan.
