The rivalry between India and England stands as one of the most epic in cricket history. The Indian cricket team is driven by the desire to outshine the English team in the very game they play, while England is passionate about asserting dominance in the Test format. Consequently, when these two cricketing giants clash, spectators are treated to the most competitive Test cricket. This intense rivalry has also given rise to memorable IND vs ENG controversies.
James Anderson vs Ravindra Jadeja
The ICC accused James Anderson of a Level 3 Breach of Conduct in 2014 after an altercation with Ravindra Jadeja at Trent Bridge. Half of Jadeja’s match fee was penalized.
Anderson further commented on Virat Kohli’s “technical deficiencies” in Chennai in 2016–17. Later, Ashwin-Jadeja had a heated argument with Anderson. Eventually, umpires and Virat had to intervene.
Jellybeans Controversy
In the 2007 Trent Bridge Test, Zaheer Khan was batting when a member of the English team hurled jellybeans at him. Kevin Pietersen, who was fielding at gully, and Zaheer got into a fight, though Pietersen denied it. In response, Zaheer picked up 5 scalps conceding 75 runs. After 21 years, India won a series in England as well as the Test match.
Virat Kohli vs James Anderson
During the second Test at Lord’s, India cricket team captain Kohli and Anderson, got into a furious argument.
Kohli and Anderson got into a violent argument, with the tall pacer telling the other, “This isn’t your fu**ing backyard.”
“You swearing at me again are you? This isn’t your fu**ing backyard,” Kohli was overheard telling Anderson, who then uttered an inaudible comment.
After Anderson bowled the over’s penultimate ball, Kohli exclaimed, “Chirp, chirp, chirp. This is what old age makes you.”
