Tom Moody claims Mayank Yadav in contention for T20 World Cup squad after IPL 2024 heroics

IPL 2024: Mayank Yadav's heroics in IPL 2024 can earn his India Cricket Team call up for ICC T20 World Cup claims Tom Moody

Mayank Yadav has been a revelation for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. The 21-year old pace star has been clocking the highest speed in IPL 2024 so far. Not only does he have incredible speed, but also he has wicket taking abilities. This has prompted Tom Moody to claim that Yadav is in contention to be part of Team India for ICC T20 World Cup.

“He (Mayank Yadav) is definitely in the conversation. Whether you take that risk punting on him or not is another conversation, because you also need to consider what skillsets you need in that reserve fast bowler – is it someone who is a power play bowler, or someone who has the ability to bowl at the death, all those subtle skillsets are important when you are talking about a T20 World Cup,” Tom Moody told ESPNCricinfo.

In the RCB vs LSG clash, Mayank Yadav clocked 156.7 kmph making it the fastest ball bowled in IPL 2024. His 3-wicket haul in the game helped LSG win by 28 runs. Moreso, he has gone on to bag back to back Man Of The Match awards for his impressive bowling.

Team India Call Up on Cards?

This has prompted the former Australian star to claim that Mayank Yadav will in contention for a spot in the team. It is a too early to say about his National Team call up. But if the youngster continues to fire on all cylinders in the remainder of the tournament, he might get his debut in the ICC T20 World Cup.

With no Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj’s poor IPL 2024 form, there is a bit of a headache in terms of the pace unit. Arshdeep Singh is a strong contender to fight for the 3rd pacers spot. It remains to be seen if Mayank gets a call up for the Men in Blue.
