Virat Kohli is a name that is synonymous to Confidence and Class. But former India Cricket Team star Harbhajan Singh recounted an incident when the ace Indian batter was doubting his own self after a poor run on form. Harbhajan then helped Kohli with encouraging words. Harbhajan remembers how he told Virat Kohli that the latter would ‘shame himself’ if he fails to score 10000 runs in Test cricket.
Currently, the ace India Cricket Team batter is short of reaching the record landmark by 1152 runs. Kohli has 8848 Test runs under his belt from 191 innings with a healthy average of 49.15 and a strike rate shy above 55. With a plethora of Test cricket upcoming, Kohli will be desperate to add a new feather to his cap by the end of this year.
“If I tell you something about his Test cricket, at the very beginning. We were in West Indies. On that tour, Fidel Edwards (former West Indies quick) had troubled him a lot, getting him out either LBW or against the short ball. He was getting out time and again, so obviously was very disappointed,” Harbhajan Singh told Taruwar Kohli on the latter’s podcast.
Harbhajan reveals how Kohli doubted himself
“He had self-doubt, questioned ‘If I am good enough?’ I told him ‘You will shame yourself if you don’t score 10000 runs. You have the capability of scoring 10000 runs in Test cricket. And if you don’t, it’ll be because of your own fault’. After that, what Kohli has done is a once-in-a-lifetime exception,” Harbhajan concluded.
Harbhajan Singh went on to reveal how Kohli was in a poor run of form which touring West Indies during his early years. The ace spinner claimed that Kohli was constantly troubled after being dispatched via Fidel Edwards. And it was when Kohli started to question himself ‘Am I good enough’. Harbhajan then encouraged Kohli by saying that he has the potential to cross 10000 runs in Test cricket and should he fails, it would be owing to his own fault.
