Murphy’s five for 68 were the eight-ever best figures registered by an Australian player on debut. Murphy is the third spinner on the list and joins Nathan Lyon and Jason Krejza. The latter leads the list with 8-215 in the Nagpur surface.

Before the first Test, skipper Cummins said in a press conference that Murphy will be the one who can trouble the India batters with his variations. The Victoria spinner was selected for that particular reason during the India series. In the very first Test, Murphy overshadowed seasoned pro Nathan Lyon by bowling stump to stump.

While Lyon could only pick up one wicket, Like Jadeja, Murphy kept bowling in the same spot and reaped rich rewards. A few of the Indian batters like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Pujara were guilty of gifting the wickets to the rookie spinner. If not for Rohit Sharam’s sublime hundred things would have got nastier for India.
