To remember the moment: Rohit Sharma reveals why he tasted Barbados pitch after winning T20 World Cup

The 2024 T20 World Cup trophy was India's first ICC title since the Champions Trophy run in 2013.

The cat is out of the bag. Rohit Sharma has finally revealed why he tasted the Kensington Oval pitch after Team India won the T20 World Cup Final on June 29. The Indian skipper, who had won the inaugural edition of the event in 2007, hadn’t won an event since and claimed that he wanted to remember the moment forever.

Rohit Sharma spills the beans

While having breakfast with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 4, the PM asked Rohit Sharma what prompted him to eat a piece of the pitch. To this, he replied, “The place, the playing surface where we got our victory—I just wanted to keep something from that. I wanted to keep a moment of that to remember for my life, and hence I tasted it. We won after playing on that pitch, and everyone waited for that moment for so long. Everyone put in so much effort for that. Numerous times in the past, we came very close to achieving that but fell short, and finally, we achieved it through the team’s effort.”
