Mushtaq Ali Trophy Final, TN beats KAR Highlights: Shahrukh Khan hit a last ball-maximum off Prateek Jain to power Tamil Nadu for a 4-wicket victory over Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday. With this win, Tamil Nadu successfully defended their title and also became the first team to win three Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophies.

Shahrukh was the man of the moment for Tamil Nadu as he scored 33* off 15 balls and sealed the game for Tamil Nadu with a maximum. The 26-year-old walked in when Tamil Nadu had lost two quick wickets and required 57 off 28 balls. He not only survived the hat-trick ball but led the chase and won the game for his team.


Earlier in Tamil Nadu’s innings, Nishanth scored a quickfire 23 off 12 before getting run out while Sai Sudharsan was trapped lbw by Karun Nair. KC Cariappa got both set batsman, N Jagadeesan and captain Vijay Shankar, in consecutive balls to derail Tamil Nadu’s chase. However, Tamil Nadu’s last hope Shahrukh Khan did the job for the defending champions.

In Karnataka’s innings, Abhinav Manohar 46 (37) and Praveen Dubey 33 (25) helped Karnataka post 151/7 after Sai Kishore’s 3/12. Both Sai Kishore and Sanjay Yadav provided early breakthroughs as they bagged three wickets in the powerplay including the wicket of Manish Pandey and Karun Nair.

Both the teams were eyeing a record third T20 domestic title. Tamil Nadu qualified for the third consecutive final defeating Hyderabad by 8 wickets while Karnataka booked their final berth with a 4-run win over Vidarbha.

Tamil Nadu have had a great season in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy so far. In the group stage of SMAT 2021, they were brilliant and directly qualified for the quarterfinals by topping their group. In the quarterfinals, despite average bowling, Tamil Nadu’s strong batting was on display as they chased 181 set by Kerala. In the semifinals, Tamil Nadu were clinical in batting and bowling against Hyderabad. Saravana Kumar bagged a 5-wicket haul and two maiden overs.
