Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav was in good touch as he scored 49 runs on a sluggish track of Lucknow against England. Thanks to Suryakumar’s gutsy knock, team India posted 229 in a crucial World Cup match against the defending champs. India later went on to defend the score easily. The Men in Blue are slated to face Sri Lanka next in World Cup. With Hardik Pandya possibly returning in the XI, the Indian team management will have to take a call between Shreyas Iyer & Suryakumar Yadav to adjust Pandya.
It must be noted that Shreyas Iyer has not been in his best in the World Cup so far. The right-handed batter has amassed just 134 runs in six outings averaging 22.33. Shreyas has managed to stroke only one fifty in the World Cup so far. On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has played two matches in the mega event scoring four against New Zealand and 49 against England.
India will face Sri Lanka in Wankhede, Mumbai
As stated above, Suryakumar Yadav stood up and delivered 49 runs. In arguably the toughest pitch in the ODI World Cup 2023 so far, the Indian batter showed why he was chosen ahead of many other batters in the World Cup squad. His patience was evident in the last game.
With Shreyas struggling with the bat, Surya might be given preference in the playing XI ahead of Iyer. Another added advantage for Suryakumar will be the venue for the next match. The home side will face Sri Lanka at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, home of Mumbai Indians in IPL.
Suryakumar has been a proved performer for his IPL franchise especially in home conditions. With good batting conditions on the cards, SKY might play the perfect finisher role for India in the upcoming World Cup match.
