Time running out for Rohit Sharma as Hitman flops in last audition stage in Ranji before facing Test axing

Rohit Sharma managed to score 3 and 28 on his Ranji Trophy retrun against Jammu and Kashmir

Was the Mumbai vs Jammu & Kashmir Ranji Trophy the last match played by Rohit Sharma in red ball cricket? Mumbai still has the match against Meghalaya left on the 30th, but Rohit hasn’t confirmed if he will play that game or not. Adding more pressure is India’s lack of red ball games before the India tour of England in the summer.

After a disappointing outing in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the BCCI made it clear for Indian stars to take part in domestic cricket. And Indian skipper Rohit Sharma agreed and decided to take part in the Ranji Trophy. But it was not the return that he was expecting. 3 and 28 is what Rohit managed in both his innings.

Poor outing for Rohit in Ranji Trophy

The India Cricket Team has no Test Cricket scheduled in recent times. After the IND vs ENG white ball series, the focus shifts to the ICC Champions Trophy. After the ICC event, the players will be busy with the IPL. And then after the T20 tournament, India will travel to England for the 5-match Test series.

This means that there would be no preparation for red-ball cricket in England. This poses a big problem for Rohit Sharma. Questions have already been raised after the Hitman failed to perform in Australia. While a decision would be taken on his red-ball career, it remains to be seen what happens.

As things stand, the BCCI Selection Committee will likely head into the transition. And thus, that means Rohit will lose his place in the red-ball format. While there remains a shroud of doubt whether he would play the next game to not.

With no more red-ball cricket in sight, it just might be the end of the road for the superstar. It is highly unlikely that he would get a chance in the squad for the 5-match Test series against the Three Lions.
