Three pacers who can replace ‘average’ Avesh Khan in India’s T20 World Cup squad reserves

India can look at other pacers who have fared well in IPL 2024 and can potentially replace Avesh in the reserves for T20 World Cup

Rajasthan Royals pacer Avesh Khan hasn’t had a great IPL so far and has put up very few commendable performances. Despite his not-so-good form, the young pacer found himself a place in India’s reserves for the T20 World Cup.

With ten days left for teams to make changes to their preliminary squads, India can look at other pacers who have fared well in IPL 2024 and can potentially replace Avesh in the reserves. In 12 matches, Avesh Khan has picked up 11 wickets, boasting of an economy rate of 9.93. InsideSport looks at three other pacers who can possibly replace Avesh in India’s T20 World Cup reserves.

Who can replace Avesh Khan in India’s T20 World Cup reserves?

1. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel has had a good season so far, shining for his new side PBKS after his move from RCB. With 20 wickets to his name in IPL 2024, the pacer is second on the list of leading wicket-takers, with just Bumrah above him. Additionally, Harshal Patel’s international experience could come of good use for India at the T20 WC. He could potentially be the right back-up that the Men in Blue need in USA and the Caribbean.

2. Mukesh Kumar

Delhi Capitals pacer Mukesh Kumar is another alternative that India can consider in place of Avesh Khan. Kumar has bagged 17 wickets in 10 games, at an economy rate of 10.36. His variations, along with the ability to bowl well-paced deliveries, make him a strong contender for a spot in India’s reserves for the World Cup. Like Harshal Patel, Mukesh Kumar’s experience is more than that of Avesh Khan, making him yet another viable alternative.

3. Harshit Rana

Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Harshit Rana has had a stellar season so far. Unpertubed by a one-match suspension and other controversies, Rana has consistently delivered for the team at crucial moments. He has bagged 16 wickets in 10 games so far and has an economy of 9.71. Rana would be an ideal choice for the selectors as Avesh Khan’s replacement in the reserves.
