Mumbai Police and the NIA (National Investigation Agency) are investigating a threat to ODI World Cup match in Ahmedabad. On Thursday night, Mumbai Police received a threat by Lawrence Bishnoi gang. It threatened to blow up Indian PM and Narendra Modi Stadium during World Cup if their demands of Rs 500 Crore ransom and release of Lawrence Bishnoi were not met. It must be noted that the high-voltage India vs Pakistan match will be held at the same venue on Oct 14.
As per reports, NIA first received the mail and they forwarded it to Mumbai Police. Lawrence Bishnoi is currently in Delhi’s Mandoli jail.
“We will blow up Narendra Modi and the Narendra Modi stadium as well if the government fails to pay us ₹ 500 crore and release Lawrence Bishnoi. Everything sells in Hindustan, so we too have bought something. No matter how much you secure, you won’t be able to remain safe from us. If you wish to talk, do so on this email,” the threat email to the NIA read.
Threat to IND vs PAK clash?
However, with tight security in Ahmedabad around World Cup matches, the officer added that the threat appeared to be a hoax. The email originated in a foreign country.
“We have received the email from the NIA, which has alerted all concerned agencies in other places as well. We also got the email ID from which the NIA got the email and are trying to trace that as well, and prima facie it seems that the mail has come from Europe,” a police officer told Hindustan Times
However, the police have still launched a manhunt to nab the sender of the mail. Furthermore, security around all venues will be reviewed and will be tightened if needed.
Ahmedabad has been wrapped in heightened security due to the high-octane India vs Pakistan clash (IND vs PAK) clash.
With a world record 1,30,000 people expected at the stadium on Oct 14, police won’t take any chances.
