Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen lauded young Indian batter Shubman Gill after latter returned to run-scoring ways with a century in IND vs ENG 2nd Test in Vizag.
Gill, who was struggling to find runs in his last 13 Test innings, shut his critics with a crucial century in India’s second innings on Sunday.
The 24-year-old scored 104 off 147 deliveries before getting dismissed by Shoaib Bashir.
During the tea break, Kevin Pietersen opened up on Gill’s comeback and said that fans need to realise that the players are not robots and they can fail.
“He has been expected to make runs every time they bat. But these guys are not robots, they can fail and they do fail but it was a really really nice knock today”, KP said on JioCinema.
“He’s got a lot of confidence in his ability and the reason for that is he scores a lot of runs. You don’t play for India and ask to bat at number three and get given the number three slot if people don’t think that you can play. But its all about runs on the board”, Pietersen further added.
Notably, it was Gill’s first 50+ score in 13 innings. It is also his first century while batting at number 3. Gill’s century has put India in a commanding position in Vizag Test. The hosts have pushed the lead past 370 and have two wickets in hands.
