There was a possibility of amputation: Rishabh Pant shares first thought after life-altering accident

Pant was driving from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee to meet his family when his car crashed into the median divider on the road in December, 2022. He was brought outside the car after the accident just time before his SUV went up in flames.

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on Thursday opened about his horrific car accident, saying he feared his leg will have to be amputated following the accident. Pant suffered the brutal crash in December of 2022 and has been out of cricketing action since. He is at the moment gearing up for his comeback into cricket after sitting out for over a year.

Pant was driving from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee to meet his family when his car crashed into the median divider on the road in December, 2022. He was brought outside the car after the accident just time before his SUV went up in flames. Since then, the wicketkeeper-batter has been building up on his fitness. He is expected to make a comeback to competitive cricket in IPL 2024.

In a Star Sports series ‘Believe: To Death & Back’ which documents his recovery, Pant opened up about his thoughts after the accident. “If there was any nerve damage, there was a possibility of amputation. That is when I felt scared,” Pant said.

Let us look at the Rishabh Pant recovery process from his horrific road accident due to which he suffered serious injuries.

The car was badly damaged in the accident. Pant said his car looked like a sedan rather than an SUV after the crash.

“I had taken an SUV, but what I was seeing was a sedan,” he quipped as he remembered his mangled vehicle.

The 26-year-old also described how his right knee dislocated in the early moments following the collision. It caused him to lie face down and in severe pain.

There was someone around so I asked if he could help getting the leg back in the position. He helped the knee get back in place,” Pant said.
