Australia is a bit of giant in the world of cricket, when it comes to the ICC events.. they of course have won the most number of 50 overs World Cups, 6, then they also have two Champions Trophy titles to their name, followed by one ICC Test Championship and one T20 World Cup. India is a close second with six titles to their names — 2 World Cups, 2 T20 World Cups and as many Champions Trophy titles.
Australia Crush a Billion Indian Dreams
But then, things would have been a bit different if the Aussies didn’t pip India in the 2023 World Cup final and then the Border Gavaskar Trophy 1-3, earlier this year. Rohit Sharma & Co. would have had a third World Cup trophy in their cabinet, along with a shot at their first World Test Championship title.. but that was not to be.
Those two losses against Australia were of course, tough to digest, but ousting them in the semi-final of the Champions Trophy semis on Tuesday, tastes all the more sweeter. Yes, India have had their revenge finally for crushing a billion dreams twice in a span of 18 months.
Travis Head — Biggest Headache for India
During the World Cup final, it was Travis Head’s 137 in Ahmedabad that silenced the entire stadium, while in the Test series, it was a collective effort from the opposition that led to India’s downfall. In the CT 2025 semis too, Travis Head looked threatening for his 39, but then Varun Chakravarthy found a way to end the team’s nemesis; and that perhaps was the turning point of the match.
AUS Ousted from Champions Trophy
If one looks at the head-to-head stats between these two teams in the ICC events — AUS is slightly ahead of IND for now, the but the latter are certainly showing at improvement. In the 50-over World Cups, in 14 matches, the Kangaroos have won 9 while we have won 5. In the Champions Trophy encounters — India has won 3, while the Aussies have won only 1.
As far as the T20 World Cups are concerned, in six meetings, India has won four, In the WTC then, in the 14 matches, India has won 5, while the Aussies have won 6 now, courtesy of the last series.
