The love-hate relationship between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir

India's star batters, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, have had numerous heated arguments in last 11 years. As both of them will now be together in the Indian cricket team.

The ex-Indian batter and two-time World Cup winner, Gautam Gambhir, takes charge as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. ‘GG ‘is possibly marking the beginning of a new chapter for Indian cricket.

The team is set to compete in major events like the Champions Trophy and WTC Final in 2025 under Gambhir’s guidance.

Gambhir is again united with the Indian team, especially with the star batter Virat Kohli. The aggressive Delhi men always had a love-hate relationship on the field.

Rivalry as players

The Kohli-Gambhir saga began in 2013 with an IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. A heated on-field altercation between Kohli, the fiery RCB captain, and Gambhir, the fierce KKR captain, started a rivalry between the two.

In 2016, the two exchanged heated words during another Kolkata-Royal Challengers match.

Verbal exchange between the player and mentor

Even after so many years, in 2023, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir had a heated exchange of words during a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Things got even more heated during the post-match handshake. Gambhir, LSG’s mentor at the time, intervened when Kohli had an argument with LSG player Naveen-ul-Haq.

Peace between Kohli and GG

Gambhir and Kohli made peace with each other in IPL 2024. During the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir hugged each other. This was their first meeting since the night in Lucknow, 2023.

The ICT team must have a strong bond. As the two major ICC events approach, Gambhir’s clever strategy and Kohli’s batting brilliance have the potential to bring the ICC trophies home.
