The Ashes – Ben Stokes undergoes surgery – England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes is not returning to the field anytime soon. The all-rounder remains on an indefinite mental health break, and no return date has been mentioned, certainly ruling him out of the Ashes later this year.

The Ashes – Ben Stokes undergoes surgery: As per a Daily Mail report, Ben Stokes underwent initial surgery soon after breaking his finger while playing for the Rajasthan Royals. However, the all-rounder was dealing with a considerable amount of pain and went under the knife again, at the hands of Leeds surgeon Doug Campbell, who removed the screws from the finger and treated scar tissue that had been causing the pain.

  • Ben Stokes suffered a finger injury during a game for Rajasthan Royals in April, ruling him out of Phase 1
  • He returned early for Durham and England, playing through “incredible pain” and taking painkilling injections.
  • Stokes featured for Northern Superchargers on July 26, which remains his last cricketing action.
  • He announced four days later that he was taking an indefinite break from cricket to work on his finger and mental health.
  • Stokes underwent a second operation to remove screws and quicken the healing process.
  • The surgery is unrelated to his availability for the Ashes, which kicks off on December 8 in Australia.
  • His participation for the Ashes does seem likely, but Stokes could return next year, with England set for separate one-day and Test tours of the Caribbean in late January and March. There is no pressure on the all-rounder to make himself available, as the team management have allowed him to recover alone with his family.

The Ashes – Ben Stokes undergoes surgery: While it is hoped that the latest surgery will quicken the healing and reduce the pain, it is believed that the surgery is not in line with his availability for The Ashes. Stokes had rushed back early after his previous surgery and will remain committed to healing fully, physically and mentally, before stepping onto the pitch again. England are yet to name their squad for the Ashes and with Sam Curran also a doubt, a Ben Stokes’ return will be a boost to the side.
