‘Thank you Captain’ Fans emotional as MS Dhoni steps down as CSK captain

MS Dhoni has won 5 IPL titles as CSK skipper. He will now step down from the leadership role with Ruturaj Gaikwad taking the charge.

MS Dhoni sent shockwaves across the cricketing fraternity as he stepped down as CSK captain ahead of the IPL 2024 opener between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad will serve as new CSK captain with MS Dhoni probably playing as a wicketkeeper-batter for the Yellow Army.

MS Dhoni was the first captain of the Chennai Super Kings. Overall, MS Dhoni has captained CSK for a record number of 235 matches. In those 235 matches, Dhoni has ended up a winner in 142 games. These also include 5 IPL trophies, the most recent came last year in the IPL 2023 final when CSK defeated Gujarat Titans.
