Test > IPL! Rohit Sharma gives warning call to those prioritizing T20 over Test cricket

Recently, the BCCI warned players to prioritize Test cricket (Ranji) and not chase after the allure of T20 cricket.

Test cricket is the king! Amid the BCCI giving a final warning to players who prioritize T20 cricket over Test cricket, Rohit Sharma has also given his final verdict. Labeling the longest and oldest format of the sport as the ‘toughest’, the Indian skipper heaped praise on youngsters like Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal, while also claiming that Test cricket is the king.

When asked about whether franchise cricket (IPL) is affecting the young generation of cricketers at the post-match press conference, Rohit said:

“Test cricket is the toughest format. If you want to excel and achieve success in this format, you have to show the hunger.”

The Indian skipper also talked about which players will be preferred when it comes to selection for the Indian cricket team.

Rohit Sharma: Preference to ‘hungry’ individuals and Tests the ‘toughest’

Jo logon ko bhookh hai, tough conditions mein khelna hai, un logon ko preference diya jayega. (Those who are hungry and who want to play in tough conditions will be given preference). It’s very simple.”

Drawing a comparison with the IPL and how it holds no candle to Test cricket, Rohit Sharma said.

“IPL is a very good format for us, but this is the toughest format and difficult to excel. You have to work hard to win; the last three wins didn’t come easy; bowlers had to do long spells; batsmen had to grind it out.
