Test is not played over 2-3 days: Rohit Sharma asserts importance ofwaiting game in Tests

IND vs ENG Rajkot Test: Rohit Sharma takes sly dig on Bazball, claims Test cricket is not played over 2-3 days

Rohit Sharma was a happy man as the India Cricket Team outclassed England in Rajkot on Day 4 of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test. Amidst all the glitter around Bazball, India registered their biggest win in Tests by beating England by 434 runs. Rohit Sharma emphasised that Test cricket is never played over 2-3 days and thus the waiting game in Tests in extremely crucial.

“When you are playing Test cricket, it is not played over 2-3 days. We do understand the importance of playing over 5 days. They played well and put us under pressure. We have got class in our bowling, the message was to stay calm and I’m really proud of how we came back the next day. When those things happen, it’s a delight,” said Rohit after the game.

Not just his batters, Rohit Sharma heaped praises for his bowlers as well. He claimed that his team was calculated and turned the game was crucial. Debutant Sarfaraz Khan was sensational with the bat. The 26-year old hammered fifties on both the innings to stitch some good innings for the hosts.

“Sarfaraz with the quality he has got, we wanted him to have time. It’s not a long-term view, we go with the flow and what we feel on that particular day, looking at the opposition, the bowling attack. We calculate everything and then go with the flow. We know how important in India it is to win the toss, the way we came back and bowled after that onslaught,” Rohit added.

Rohit Sharma Praises Jadeja & Jaiswal

Lastly, Rohit spoke about the two players who changed the game. Yashasvi Jaiswal with his blistering double century set the pace of the game for the hosts. And then came Ravindra Jadeja. After a century in the first innings, Jadeja scalped a fifer to dismantle England.

“With the bat we knew the job was half-done, those two youngsters got us the lead we wanted and obviously Jadeja with the ball in the 2nd innings was superb. [on Jaiswal] I have spoken a lot about him, in Vizag as well, people outside the changeroom have spoken as well. I don’t want to talk too much about him, he has started his career on a high, I want him to continue doing, yeah looks a good player,” Rohit concluded.
