Test Cricket Highest Chase: Pakistan fell short in their bid for a world-record chase in Test cricket history in the final hour of Day 5 at the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday. Set a daunting 506 runs to win by Australia, Pakistan batted their skins out with captain Babar Azam leading from the front with a fine hundred as the hosts were within a distance of re-writing the record books. However, a collapse followed Azam’s dismissal and Pakistan played out the final few overs to eke out a draw in an enthralling Test match. Follow Insidesport.in for all PAK vs AUS LIVE Updates.

Babar Azam scored a stunning 196 as Pakistan came close to achieving Test cricket history, as they aim to chase down 506 in the fourth innings. The hosts looked down and out in the first 3 days of the Test, but have since rallied behind Babar and Abdullah Shafique to get the job done.
Babar’s century is his highest Test score and he will be disappointed having missed out on a doubleton. It is also the highest score by a captain in the 4th innings and he is among 4 players to have played more than 400 balls in the second essay.
However, following his wicket, the Pakistan innings crumbled with Faheem Ashraf and Sajid Ali departing in quick succession. Mohammed Rizwan held the other end and reached his century, but it was too late and the two teams settled for a pulsating draw.
This was Pakistan’s second-highest fourth-innings total, following the 450 they scored back in 2016 in Brisbane against Australia. As far as their highest successful chase is concerned, Pakistan’s highest came against SriLanka, when they chased down 377 at Pallekele.
