History
The BCCI declared in October 2022 that it would host a women’s franchise cricket tournament in March 2023, with five teams. The Indian Premier League’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru are owned by Diageo, who also purchased the rights to one of the teams. .
Ben Sawyer was named the team’s head coach in February 2023. On February 13, 2023, the WPL held its first player auction, at which point Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed 18 players to join their team.
