Namibia will start their T20 World Cup campaign on June 3 against Oman in Bridgetown. Namibia cricket team did not qualify for the initial tournaments held in South Africa in 2007, England in 2009, the West Indies in 2010, Sri Lanka in 2012, and Bangladesh in 2014. However, their determination led them to qualify for the 2016 edition in India. Despite their efforts, they did not advance past the qualification stage.
Their participation continued in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman, where they managed to reach the Super 12 stage. Although they finished 10th out of 16 teams, it was a significant achievement for the team, with eight games played, three wins, and five losses.
In the subsequent edition held in Australia in 2022, Namibia competed in the group stage. Although they managed to secure one win out of three matches, they finished 13th out of 16 teams.
Looking forward, Namibia has qualified for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in 2024, set to be held in the Cricket West Indies and the United States. This qualification represents another milestone in Namibia’s T20 journey, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to the sport and their aspirations for continued growth and success on the international stage.
