History 

In October 2022, the BCCI revealed plans for a five-team women’s franchise cricket tournament to be held in March 2023. Adani Group, known for owning the Gujarat Giants kabaddi team, secured one of the franchises. Mithali Raj joined the Gujarat Giants as a mentor on January 30, 2023. Rachael Haynes was appointed as head coach in February 2023. During the inaugural player auction on February 13, 2023, Gujarat Giants enlisted 18 players for their squad. Despite their efforts, the team ended at the bottom of the group stage in the tournament’s debut season.

GG bought Beth Mooney at INR 2 crore, one of the best players in the current era of cricket. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter, who has amassed over 2200 runs from 81 T20Is thanks to two hundreds and sixteen fifties, has an impressive T20I record. 

Ashleigh Gardner

Ashleigh Gardeners was signed by GG for a whooping INR 3.20 Crore and retained for WPL 2024. Gardner is one of the best all-rounders in the game, and GG will greatly benefit from her extensive international experience. She has played 73 Twenty20 Internationals, taking 53 wickets and amassing 1176 runs.

Laura Wolvaardt

Right-handed hitter Laura Wolvaardt represents South Africa in the top order. The daring batter, who serves as the national team’s captain, is well-known for her striking strokes and is currently at the top of her game. As a substitute for captain Beth Mooney, she was signed by Gujarat Giants in 2023 after initially going unsold in the auction. 

Mannat Kashyap

The Gujarat Giants signed left-arm spin all-rounder Mannat Kashyap for INR 10 lakhs in the TATA WPL Auction in advance of the second season. She recently played for India A against the England Women’s side and made her debut for India in the ODI series against Australia.
