IPL and runs are synonyms of each other. We have seen how this T20 league has single-handedly transformed the approach of batters. In general, the T20 format is more batter-friendly than the bowler’s zone, many bowlers consider this format a graveyard. Now, with the IPL 2025 mega auction coming, all eyes will be on aggressive batters that teams will look to buy. On October 31st, when franchises announced their number of retentions and which players they would retain, it came as a surprise to many when a few teams released some big hitters. As mentioned, this format usually revolves around the big hitters. If we look at the Mumbai Indians, they have Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav, whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad is packed with Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, and Abhishek Sharma. But a few teams still need a heavy batting attack. See which teams will search for some quality names in the 2025 mega auction who can destroy the bowlers in the upcoming IPL.
Teams who will target Batters in IPL 2025 mega auction
PBKS
When a team retains only two players in total, it clearly means they believe they are in a poor position and want to revamp things. This is the case with Punjab Kings currently, as the only two players they have retained , Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. Now, PBKS needs some quality batters, as they have removed players like Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone. To cover all these bases, PBKS will look to bring in some impressive batters into the camp.
RCB
Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar are the only batters retained by RCB, a team that has seen some great batters in their mix in the past, from Faf du Plessis to Chris Gayle to AB de Villiers. They will also look to get some quality players who can contribute in the upcoming IPL. If we see now Dinesh Karthik is no longer part of the team, it means RCB needs a wicketkeeper as well. Also, Karthik’s role in the last few years with RCB was more of a finisher, and the team will be looking to find the best player who can fill his shoes. Team will be under pressure, as there are always high expectations from this team, but they have mostly failed to meet them.
CSK
Yes, CSK has surely players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, and Shivam Dube, who are known to contribute heavily with the bat. However, if we look at the whole situation, since MS Dhoni plays the last few overs, expecting big innings from him every time might not be realistic. Jadeja has retired from T20Is and is currently not in the impressive form he once was. Speaking more about Shivam Dube and Ruturaj Gaikwad, we saw how they performed well in the last IPL, but certainly, their form in recent domestic games has not been great, although the format was different. Looking at the bigger picture, CSK also needs some quality batters if they are eyeing a 6th IPL trophy.
