Team India to depart for Australia in two groups on November 10 and 11, Rohit Sharma to also fly

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has long represented one of cricket’s most intense and storied rivalries, pitting India against Australia in fierce contests for supremacy.

In preparation for the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Team India will head to Australia in two batches, with departures on November 10 and 11. Due to logistical constraints, it wasn’t possible to book the entire team on a single commercial flight, according to TOI sources. This staggered departure ensures the full squad arrives well in advance of the first Test, scheduled to begin on November 22 in Perth.

Jaydev Shah appointed as Team India Manager

Jaydev Shah, president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association and former Saurashtra captain, will accompany the team as manager for the series. Shah, who has a rich cricketing background with 120 First-Class games, previously served as team manager in a home white-ball series against New Zealand.

His familiarity with the players and experience with high-stakes matches are expected to bolster India’s preparations for one of cricket’s most competitive series.

Rohit Sharma to Travel despite likely absence in First Test

India captain Rohit Sharma is set to fly with the team, though he may miss the first Test due to the impending birth of his second child. “Rohit wants to train in Australia for a few days before possibly returning to India for personal reasons,” a source noted to TOI. This move underscores Sharma’s commitment to acclimating to Australian conditions early, even if he needs to briefly return to India.

Intense Rivalry in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has long represented one of cricket’s most intense and storied rivalries, pitting India against Australia in fierce contests for supremacy. This year, India’s tour will span November 2024 to January 2025, featuring a five-match Test series and three additional warm-up matches.

Points gained in this series will contribute to the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship standings, adding even more weight to each match.

India’s 18-Member Squad Announced, Standbys Ready

The BCCI has named an 18-member squad for the series, featuring stalwarts and emerging talents. Reserves Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, and Khaleel Ahmed are also on standby, ensuring ample support across the playing formats. Australia’s squad announcement is expected soon, with both nations gearing up for a competitive series.

India Squad:

  • Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammad Shami, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Sarfaraz Khan, Virat Kohli, Prasidh Krishna, Rishabh Pant (wk), KL Rahul, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar
