India’s T20 World Cup victory parade was a joyous occasion, but the sheer number of enthusiastic fans resulted in some minor injuries. At least 11 people were treated at hospitals after feeling unwell or sustaining minor injuries during the parade through South Mumbai.
Crowding issues: Team India victory parade
Tens of thousands of fans lined the streets of Marine Drive, eager to catch a glimpse of their cricket heroes. This outpouring of support, however, led to overcrowding and a few cases of discomfort.
Nine fans treated at government hospital
Nine fans were admitted to the state-run GT Hospital. Some complained of difficulty breathing due to the dense crowd, while others sustained minor injuries. Fortunately, all nine individuals are now in stable condition.
Additional Injuries and Discharges
One fan received treatment at St. George’s Hospital near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus before being released. Another person was treated at a private hospital in South Mumbai and discharged after treatment.
Mumbai Police maintain order
The Mumbai police, anticipating a large turnout, had deployed a significant number of officers to manage the crowds. Thankfully, their efforts prevented any major incidents.
Police Commissioner commends officers and fans
Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar commended his force for their exceptional crowd management during the parade, especially considering the unexpected rain showers. He also expressed his gratitude to the fans for their cooperation, stating, “We made it happen together!”
