Pakistan still in contention to reclaim top spot
However, all is not lost for Pakistan as they can still reclaim the top spot before the start of the World Cup. While Australia are no longer in race to be the No.1 team heading into the World Cup, Pakistan could still become No.1 if Australia win the remaining two games against India.
Talking about the match, India registered a comfortbale 5-wicket win over Australia in the first ODI. Mohammed Shami was the star with ball as his five-wicket haul helped KL Rahul-led India to bundle out Australia for 276.
In reply, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched a 142-run opening stand and scored brilliant fifties to put India in front. Despite losing few quick wickets, fifties from Rahul and Surykumar Yadav ensured a crucial win for the hosts.
